The TRHMSX is an FPGA-based MSX2+ clone that offers a modern approach to experiencing the classic MSX architecture. It features a Cyclone I FPGA core, 2MB or 4MB of mapped RAM, a 9958 Video Display Processor for enhanced graphics, and FM and SCC sound capabilities for authentic audio. The system supports USB keyboards, microSD storage, two MSX cartridge slots, dual joystick ports, and wireless network support via ESP8266. New Version 1.6

Version 1.6 brings major improvements: the TRHMSX now features VGA and S-Video outputs, as well as support for any USB keyboard — no longer requiring PS/2 compatibility.
I’ve also reorganized the layout: video, audio, and power connections are now grouped on one side, while keyboard and joystick ports are placed on the other for a cleaner and more practical setup.

The MSX computers hold a special place in computing history, and their legacy continues through modern projects that combine nostalgia with innovation — such as FPGA synthesis, which allows the faithful recreation of original hardware.
This project is an open-source MSX2+ FPGA implementation, inspired by the 1chipMSX but featuring significant improvements and a brand-new PCB design.

At the heart of the system is a Cyclone I FPGA, accompanied by several supporting components. The board is a 4-layer PCB measuring 12 × 15 cm, carefully designed for performance and reliability.

Important Notes

Video Output:
The TRHMSX is factory-configured for VGA output (31 kHz), which delivers the best image quality. The VGA standard is supported by most LED/LCD monitors with a DB15 connector.
If your display only supports HDMI, you can use a VGA-to-HDMI converter, which is inexpensive and easy to find on marketplaces like eBay or Mercado Livre.

Keyboard:
This version supports USB keyboards only. While most tested USB keyboards work flawlessly, full compatibility with all models cannot be guaranteed.
It is recommended to avoid gaming keyboards or those requiring special Windows drivers, as they often do not follow USB standards and may not function properly with the TRHMSX.
